Cataract is a disease in which our natural lens inside of our eyes becomes opacified. The direct reason of Cataract is degeneration of the lens protein caused by many reasons. Anyone might get Cataract in relation to their age in which of course there are individual differences. The treatment will be an operation. Ophthalmologists have done Phacoemulsification & Aspiration (PEA) Operations for the last 20 years. This operation removes the opacified lens, to insert artificial clear lens. Recently we have the choice to use artificial multi-focal lens which is not covered by health insurance. I have been the surgeon for numerous operations in the past.

We will not do operations in our clinic because very few patients here need a Cataract operation. Main reason is the average age of our patients is rather young.

We will be able to give you medication and advice for not developing Cataract. Preventive medicine is hardly seen in hospitals or clinics where they do operations.
There are some causes of Cataract, the degeneration of the lens protein. Simple aging, ultra violet light, injury, inflammation and, quite recently found, accumulation of mercury (Hg). We will prescribe medicines and advise for preventing the progress of Cataract.
